The original women's feminist choir. Over 30 years of activism through song.

Anna Crusis, a feminist choir founded in 1975, strives for musical excellence and social change. We have a special focus on music by, for and about women, and enjoy singing pieces from different cultures around the world. The choir seeks diversity and inclusion in its membership, audiences and musical selection.

Our outreach programs and performances have included: Women Organized Against Rape, Woodhaven Center, Cambria Women's Detention Center, Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Association of University Women, Unitarian Universalist Church, Hospice, private weddings, Equality Forum and Mt. Holyoke Alumni Reunion to mention a few.

Join this unique group of women and watch the changes evolve.

Anna Crusis is America's oldest feminist choir! The choir is about:

  • Singing for social justice - using music as a vehicle for progressive social change.
  • Bringing together musical excellence and human empowerment in a beautiful and uniquely powerful way.
  • Presenting multicultural repertoire reflecting the rich diversity of human lives and struggles, especially those of women.
  • Exploring a wide variety of musical styles, including folk and popular music from around the world with an emphasis on a cappella music.

The Choir's season runs from September through June.

Rehearsals are Monday evenings at the Friends Center, 15th and Cherry Streets.

Join us for our 2007-2008 Season!

Hear from a few singers about why they sing in the Choir:

"I was depressed and overwhelmed after twenty years of working in systems where I kept discovering abused and hurt women. It was part of my healing process to connect with Anna, and part of reclaiming my voice to start singing with them. The song "Warrior" so connects with my life that I cry and recommit myself to this work every time I sing or hear it!"
                         -- Brenda Egolf - Fox Soprano 1

"Anna Crusis has opened a whole new world to me. As an amateur musician before joining the choir, I had always seen traditional choral music primarily as a private experience; each singer and listener gleans their own interpretation from a piece, without an opportunity to connect with each other.

With Anna Crusis, I have learned the power of music to bring people together. When we invite the audience to sing with us, we create a community of song that is vibrant and energizing. Our music reaches people who have found many choral performances inaccessible. We sing of the battered, the oppressed, and the marginalized--not only of their trials and obstacles, but of their strength and hope."
                         -- Lynn Carroll - Alto 2

"I was in a store the first time that I head the song Breaths. I asked the shopkeeper what CD it was on and if it was available for sale. I could hardly wait to get into my car to listen to the music that I had just purchased. I had never heard of the Anna Crusis Women's Choir before, but after listening to the messages that their songs held, I wanted to find out more about them. Whether light or serious, this music actually said the things that I had felt for some time. It took me a while to hear them in concert, and I was not disappointed. It was worth the wait."
                         -- Joy Mitchell - Soprano 2.

GOOD LUCK!
